From staff reports
ONEKAMA, Mich. – Only two weekends remain to shop at the Freshwater Reporter art sale fundraiser. The sale is taking place at Patina, a resale gallery of vintage and repurposed items and local art.
The gallery is located at 4850 Main St. (M-22), and gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
Proceeds from the sale will help keep the press rolling at the Freshwater Reporter, a free community newspaper known for its engaging local stories and extensive calendar of events.
Paintings, prints, photographs, gift baskets, pottery, jewelry, sewn items and a colorful quilt are available for sale. All items were donated by local artisans, businesses and organizations.
Those unable to attend the fundraiser may make a donation via PayPal or by mailing a donation to: Freshwater Planet, LLC, P.O. Box 188, Manistee, MI, 49660. (Please, no cash.)
More than 60 people attended the fundraiser’s opening reception on May 30 and several hundred dollars were raised.
Attendees met and mingled with Patina owner Nikki Schneider and the Freshwater Reporter contributing writers and editors, including: Mark Banaszak, Valerie Chandler, Joshua Elie (Northwoods Sauce Boss columnist), Louisa Loveridge Gallas (poet in residence), Kevin Howell and his “navigator” Jean Howell, Kristina Stierholz, Pat Stinson and Mark Videan.

Last year, a fundraiser organized by Bonnie McPhedran (owner of the former Yellow Dog Cafe in Onekama) and Nikki Schneider raised more than $1,500.
The Freshwater Reporter was founded in 2019 by Manistee residents Pat Stinson and Mark Videan. The free paper is delivered to more than 150 retail and other locations in Manistee and Mason counties, as well as destinations beyond the county lines. It is funded by advertising and donations from readers.
