MANISTEE, Mich. – An invitation-only artists’ exhibition, “A Thread Runs Through It,” will open tomorrow with a free public reception between 5-7 p.m. in the Hardy Hall Gallery of the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts at 101 Maple St.
Described as a “vibrant multi-sensory display of artwork devoted to fiber and needle arts,” the exhibition runs through October 30 and will feature pieces by more than 20 Michigan textile artists. Items on loan from the Manistee County Historical Museum will also be displayed. They highlight Manistee’s prominent place in designer fashion.
“What makes this show unique is the incredible diversity of materials, techniques and styles used by the artists,” said the show’s Co-curator Mark Videan. “All the participating artists were invited because members of our visual arts committee had seen their work before and knew how great it would be to exhibit them all together in one place. The inclusion of displays of Manistee’s past and current presence in the fashion industry adds a historic and local perspective to the show.”
Works include needlepoint, embroidery, knitting, basketry, weaving, sewing, collage and more.
