A friend of mine who used to live in Chief shared on social media a dream he had about Obama visiting him. I posted my reply, “The Commander in Chief!” Well, if the former commander really did visit Chief, he would find a sawmill on one side of the main street (a.k.a. Chief Road) and Northern Natural Cider House and Winery on the other.

Beyond the winery’s tasting room is a cross-country skiing and hiking trail. The one-mile jaunt is open and wooded, flat and sloping, and just long enough to make a skier thirsty for one or more of the 11 hard cider flavors on tap and wines by the bottle.

New this winter: smells from organic pizzas wafting from the food wagon parked in the plant. Eat them in the tasting room, carry them outside to the propane firepits or order them to go.
