Local media matters more than ever, according to the hosts of this morning’s upcoming virtual discussion with local journalists.  Find out how local media is relevant now more than ever.

Ed Ronco of Interlochen Public Radio will host a 90-minute kitchen table chat beginning at 10 a.m. today with area journalists about the future and challenges of journalism in our counties and state. One of the panelists is Jacob Wheeler, publisher and editor of Glen Arbor Sun. The Sun was the inspiration for Freshwater Reporter.  Pat Stinson, founder and co-editor of Freshwater Reporter, was a contributing writer for the Glen Arbor Sun for more than 15 years. The Glen Arbor Sun recently won seven awards in the Michigan Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.

Other panelists include: David Zeman, senior editor of Bridge Magazine; Victoria Alfonseca, editor of the GTB News, a publication of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians;  John Elchert, publisher of the Leelanau Enterprise;  Mardi Link, an award-winning author and a journalist for the Traverse City Record Eagle; and Jillian Manning, editor of The Northern Express and the daily Ticker.
